The South Indian zonal level SLDC held at FISAT was officially inaugurated by Mr. S Ananthanarayanan, Retd Director of NPOL (Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory) on 16 October 2015 in a function attended by the members of management, faculty, and students of the Mechanical Engineering department of FISAT. The Curtain Raiser of the programme was held on 15th October 2015. Various events were conducted during the 3-day programme from 16th to 18th October 2015.
Student Design Contest (SDC)
The challenge was to design and develop a scaled-down version of a transporter capable of delivering granular materials, which was guided by, one person. The engineering design constraints and evaluation procedures for the device were given.
Current and relevant issues faced by the industries of today was the topic. Theoretical knowledge was applied to find the solution for the issue . The issue was solved practically and presented through power point presentation. The team consisted of 4 members.
Oral Presentation Competition
his competition was designed to emphasize the ability to deliver clear, concise and effective oral presentations, particularly pertaining to some sphere in which an engineer should be involved .Each student presentation lasted fifteen minutes and was followed by a five minute “Question and Answer” (Q&A) period.. The subject matter of each presentation addressed a technical, economic or environmental aspect of engineering or other basic engineering theme.
Poster Design Competition
This was designed to emphasize the ability to deliver a visual presentation .Areas in the field of mechanical engineering were chosen as the topic.
Web Design Competition
It was an event to showcase the designing skills and bring out the creativity. This competition was intended to encourage the delivery of visual presentations using web page technology. The participants were allowed to choose any topic of their own choice . For Example , the website of a technical fest of the college or related to scientefic topics.
Video Presentation Competition
This competition put great emphasis on one’s ability to deliver clear, concise and effective presentations to an audience, particularly pertaining to some sphere which an engineer should be involved.The subject matter of each presentation was to address a technical, economic or environmental aspect of engineering or other basic engineering theme.
The challenge was to create a robot whose sole purpose was to push, throw, flip, drag, or otherwise move the opponent out of the arena within a stipulated time. This event was aimed to test one Robot against another robot in the field .
In this workshop, the participants learnt to design and develop a remote controlled car on their own. The students experienced every aspect of the design, development and debugging process.
